How Sweet It is! Franklin Woman's Club Offers Charitable Donations and Acts of Kindness in Time for Valentine's Day

With Valentine’s Day approaching, candlelit dinners and romance usually come to mind. But for the Franklin Woman’s Club, the focus is on acts of kindness and charity. Recently, club members combined an art class with a service project to bring Valentine’s Day wishes to Meals on Wheels clients and abused and neglected children. After the club’s Arts/Creative Chairperson, Daryl Miller (a former elementary school art teacher), demonstrated how to create “pop – up” cards to club members, eleven women got to work creating them along with other designs. Cards were delivered to the Quail Brook Senior Center, operated by the Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services, on Wednesday, February 13th so they will be ready for distribution to the center’s 85 Meals on Wheels clients on February 14th. Another group of 40 cards was made for children served through CASA of NJ (Court Appointed Special Advocates), an organization that advocates for neglected and abused youth. In total, 125 cards were donated to help brighten Valentine’s Day for clients served by these two organizations.

This is just one example of the type of work done by the Franklin Woman’s club. The Franklin Woman’s Club also made donations to local First Aid Squads, Second Chance for Animals (Animal Shelter) and to a local senior center to help support future educational events at the facility. Additionally, club members are in the process of creating blankets or other knitted items to further support CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
